I just got back from a free, five day, four night cruise to Key West and Cozumel. And I got paid to do it!!!! And I've decided that this is how I want to spend the rest of my life.
No more jobs . . . 9-5, 26 pay periods a year, working for someone else. After three degrees (a B.S., M.B.A., and Ph.D.--don't get me wrong study if you want to, I actually enjoy it), I now know that everything I did to help me get up the corporate ladder and the frustration I had not getting to where I wanted to go has now been replaced with my new career path, traveling for a living!!!!
About a month ago I joined a company called Your Travel Biz (YTB). I am 52 and have found myself between jobs (yet again!!) despite all my "edumacation" and hard work. Not only do I have a Ph.D. in Organizational Communication from Howard University--the Mecca!!-- I've had my M.B.A. for more thant 25 years. I decided that rather than to look for a job I'd make one of my own. I have skills . . . I'm a writer, a certified leadership coach, I'm creative, motivated, highly intelligent . . . and for years had wasted my skills and was being held back by the limited positions I had served in. I had decided to create for myself a limitless opportunity that could only be constrained my my own imagination. And then I was introduced to YTB.
It was actually a gift given to me at the 50th birthday celebration of a good friend. She was self employed, successful and mentioned that she had recently abandoned her Accounting practice for this business. I was in. If she was convinced I'd definitely give it a try.I joined without reservation.
I had been praying for the past few months for God to show me His will for my life. I was trusting Him for an answer. I left the faculty of Howard University in December of 2007 and in January began a fellowship with the African American HIV University Community Mobilization College (AAHU-CMC), a program administered by the Black Aids Institute (BIA)and funded by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). It is rewarding work, work I am committed to but it does not pay anything.
The research I was doing at Howard was related to how communication can be used to help eliminate health disparities among African Americans and other underrepresented minorities, a topic the Department of Marketing did not see as "viable" business research. Now I can do the research I know will help "my people" and continue my work in HIV/AIDs without wondering where my next paycheck will come from.
I joined YTB for the freedom that business ownership can give you. Can you imagine, not having to go to work another day of your life and knowing that your family and all future generations of your family can be secure in that same financial freedom? Want to know more?
